I rewrote the folk tale "The Golden Arm" to tell a story about the kind of friendship you wish would extend into the next life. Through the reunion of childhood best friends this piece explores themes of intense platonic love, grief, possession, haunting, and Florida.
I designed the retelling using the unique narrative form of a “crankie” where verbal narration accompanies panoramic illustrated visuals. It was made in 2022 with black ink, gold ink, and gouache resist technique on freezer paper. The scroll is 40 feet long!
I have performed “Her Golden Arm” at the Black Cherry Puppet Slam and The Mushroom Festival in Baltimore, MD in 2022.
